The purpose is the direct and alternating current supply of the connected downhole equipment, recording and display of incoming data in real time, and logging results memorization. In terms of design, GIK is a 19-inch rack or case (permanent or portable configuration) with functional units:

• digital log recorder
• control computer
• downhole equipment power supply source
• RIH/POOH operation depth and speed control panel
• thermal plotter
• uninterruptible power supply
